Fighting in the Mogadishu, the Somalian capital, has continued on for a second day. The Ethiopian forces are one of many apparent rebel groups that have attacked the capital city, and already there are 15 known to be dead and many more missing. Citizens are hiding in their houses or attempting to flee the city, and local media is reporting that even the police station is empty, as officers have fled in fear. Though the U.N. is backing Somalia, the government is very weak, and has been suffering at the hands of many rebel groups, and Ethiopian tanks and planes, since January.
Yesterday, Addis Ababa, president of another Ethiopian rival, Eritrea, told media that he feared Ethiopia would withdraw some of their troops from Somalia and attack Eritrea. Though analysts say that the two countries have been feuding since their current President and Prime Minister came in to power in 2004, their rival just got to concerning heights when backing for Somalia’s oil starting coming in just this year.
