On Friday, Morocco announced that they would be removing the ambassador to Spain after the King and Queen of Spain announced that they would be visiting a section of North Africa. At first this might seem like it should not cause a problem, but it brought up old issues about whether or not the area was owned by Spain or Morocco, as they have long since been labeled “occupied territories”. Spain has claimed that the two cities in question (Ceuta and Melilla), have belonged to them for over four centuries so there is no question about who they belong too. Though Morocco has not stated how long their ambassador will be staying home, the idea is that it is until Spain remembers their 2002 agreement that the cities do not belong to either country.
