Invitations from the United States to a Middle East conference
held in Annapolis are planning to be sent out as soon as Tuesday (the 27th of November). The purpose of the conference is to relaunch Israeli-Palestinian peace talks, but the Bush administration is inviting Egypt, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Syria and other “key international players.” Though President Bush is planning the attend part of the event, Condoleezza Rice is the chair of the event, which will begin with a pre-conference dinner. Details about the meeting are going to be made public in the next few days, but so far the United States is anticipating that all those who are inviting will attend. The former national security adviser Brent Scowcroft apparently warned Bush and Rice last month that if the conference fails, there could be “devastating consequences”.
